Freedom: Be Intentional

In July, we’ve focused on freedom: determining how “free” you are, seeing how each of us is made for freedom, and why we should take the time to be thankful for our freedom.

Freedom is an incredibly broad concept. It means something different to everyone, which is a freeing thing on its own! At its foundation, though, freedom will always embody this: freedom in Christ is something no one and nothing can take away. Your enemies can never steal God’s gift of freedom. You can never fully erase God’s gift of freedom, even if you don’t feel worthy of it.

As you’ve read through the 4word blogs this month, what has freedom come to mean to you? Maybe your eyes have been opened to an internal doubt or fear that was keeping you from taking that next bold step. Or maybe you learned that freedom in your life meant surrender of all the “things” you’ve allowed into your schedule, thinking they would bring validation and ownership of your future but instead they brought you under their control.

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7

This verse may sound like it’s only talking about monetary giving, but it is also a powerful reminder for us to be aware of the freedom we have when faced with the opportunity to give of ourselves. Many of us feel trapped by a compulsion and obligation to say “yes” to everything placed before us. God doesn’t want that for you! He has given you a freedom through Him to be intentional with your time and talents. His plan for your life will never include you being drained and feeling like everything you’re doing is fruitless.

Our prayer is that you’ve allowed God to work in your heart this month and teach you what true freedom means in your life. His answer may have been scary or it may have been affirming. Trust in His calling and guidance. You may be looking at having to embrace a “new normal” and that’s OK. What is vital to you is that you fully embrace your freedom in Christ. Surrender fully to your Father and draw daily strength from the knowledge that He holds you in His hands and has already made ready your path. All you have to do is follow Him and walk daily in His gift of freedom.

If you have a story about discovering and defining your freedom, we’d love to hear it! Email your written story or short video of your story to Jordan at jjohnstone@4wordwomen.org.

“Freedom” reflections:

Lord, we can never thank you enough for the freedom you’ve given us. We don’t deserve this opportunity to live separated from the lies and heaviness of the world, and we never want to take Your freedom for granted again. Help us to identify with our personal definition of freedom and invite it into our daily lives. Bless us with a life that is free from comparisons, guilt, lack of confidence, and never-ending fatigue. Guide us on a path focused solely on living for and pleasing You, a path which will seamlessly immerse us in a freedom to be the best version of ourselves. We love you and commit to live each day free!
