Is This Why Relationships Fail?

relationships

If you had three seconds to state your most important relationship, what would you come up with? If you’re married, it would likely be your spouse. Single? Maybe your best friend, sibling, or even parent. No matter which life stage you’re in, “relationship” is an evident concept in your life. God created humans to want to be around and with other humans. (Remember? He didn’t want us to be alone?)

February isn’t February without a torrential downpour of hearts and roses and candy and little diapered baby men. While a fun holiday to celebrate, it does not (and should not) honestly represent love and relationships. Sure, we all dream of Valentine’s Day being every day, but that’s so not realistic.

Perhaps this is why 44% of the adult American population is single, why about half of marriages are ending in divorce, and why only 1 in 12 friendships last. Our minds and hearts have distorted the meaning of “being together” and belonging to someone, resulting in expectations that are way too extreme and end results that are sadly reflective of those expectations.

Think you have a good grip on your relationships? Pick your healthiest relationship and ask yourself these questions:

For our discussion on relationships this month, we want to look beyond the classic “love and marriage” territory. We know that relationships embody so much more! Friends, coworkers, clients, family, even enemies: your life is a sea of relationships and connections that all need their own unique attention and foundation.

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” – Ephesians 4:2-3

By the end of this month, we want to see more peace and unity in your life. We want you to be able to confidently identify and testify all those you hold dear. Instead of focusing on the superficial surface-level of February’s love fest, be bold and dive deep this month with a desire to broaden your definition of “relationship” and understand exactly how God has wired you to connect.
