How to Gracefully Navigate Change in 2019

Happy New Year! We can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for 4word and our 4word women. Thanks to feedback from our incredible readers, we are bringing you an (almost) all-new lineup of topics for the next 12 months, ranging from mental health to joyful generosity. Join us each month to be a part of the conversation and community growth!

To kick off the New Year and our new list of topics, let’s talk about managing transition and change in your life. January is the ultimate clean slate. It’s the start of a new batch of 12 months, and it’s your new starting line for any goals and milestones you’ve set for 2019. January can be an exciting month!

But we know that January might be not-so-exciting, too. The New Year might be kicking off for you with a new boss, a new department, maybe even a totally new company. Or maybe you’ve taken “clean slate” to a whole new level and are in a new state with a new company or career and are starting from the ground up. And maybe there are some of you who are starting this year without a job, in limbo as you job search and seek God’s next step for your life.

Transition and change can be exciting, it’s true. But they can also create a scary, faith-testing, and painfully drawn-out time in your life. Sometimes change isn’t something we asked for. Transition can come at what we feel is the worst possible time in our lives. Change and major life transition can quickly stir up anger and confusion in our hearts and minds, which will quickly affect every area of our lives.

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” – 1 Corinthians 13:12

Anyone in the midst of change or transition doesn’t want to hear that one day they’ll be able to look back on what they’re going through and see God’s hand in it. You want to know now why you’re enduring what you are! But the journey is part of the reward. Focus on the present and trust that God has your future ready for you. We can’t wait to take this month to learn about embracing change and transition, including all of the uncertainty, discomfort, and maybe pain that might be tagging along. Will you join us?
