Holding It All Together? A Real Talk on Stress, Faith, and Finding Quiet
You’re Not “Too Emotional”—You’re Just Stretched Thin
You wrapped up a long workday, been on too many meetings that should have been emails, knocked out deadlines, squeezed in an errand, checked in with your team—and then silently cried because you realized you were going to be late for your child’s game… again.
That doesn’t make you weak. That makes you human.
Mental health isn’t just about breakdowns. Sometimes your mental stability is just not at its healthiest state. It’s about everything that leads up to feeling mentally challenged: the late nights, the never-ending to-do lists, the invisible pressure to be everything to everyone while quietly unraveling inside.
Sound familiar? You’re not alone.
Years ago, I was there too. I spread myself too thin, and the ones who mattered most my family—often got what was left of me instead of the best of me. I missed special moments. I showed up late to events that should have been a priority. And I remember asking God, “Is this just what life has to be?”
After finally taking time to pray and ask God for guidance, His answer didn’t come in the form of a dramatic life overhaul. It was a simple shift—a small adjustment to my schedule. One of the most powerful changes? I turned off the music during my commute and started using that time to talk to God. I’d tell Him about my day. I’d ask Him how I could glorify Him in that day—not someday when life slowed down, but that day, right in the middle of the crazy.
And research confirms what many of us have already felt: In 2022, 81% of workers reported that workplace stress affects their mental health, an increase from 78% in 2021. Additionally, 73% indicated that this stress impacts their relationships with family, friends, or co-workers, stated by Mental Health America, 2023 Workplace Wellness Research. And McKinsey’s 2023 Women in the Workplace report found that 48% of professional women feel consistently burned out.
Let that sink in—nearly half of us are running on empty.
If you’re feeling stretched thin, you’re not broken. You’re simply navigating a world that celebrates over-functioning and labels it “success.”
Now is the time to reflect—not just on what we’re doing, but how we’re really doing. Health isn’t just about what you eat or how often you move. It includes your mind, your emotions, and your spirit. You can’t hustle your way out of emotional exhaustion. And no protein shake is going to fix what your soul has been carrying around in silence.
But here’s the good news: God sees it all—yes, even the exhaustion you hide behind your polished email signature and polite smile.
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.” Stillness isn’t laziness. It’s wisdom. It’s an invitation to let go of the pressure and allow your soul to catch its breath. And if prayer and journaling aren’t enough in this season, please know this:
Seeking a Christian therapist is not a lack of faith. It’s an act of faith. Sometimes God works through others—trained, compassionate people—who can help us process what we’ve been trying to carry alone.
Here’s your MyLifeFull Action Taker Challenge: The 2-Week “Stillness Strategy” For 14 days, carve out 10 minutes a day. No phone. No noise. Just you, your breath, and God. Sit in silence. Pray. Write down what comes up. Let it be messy. Let it be honest. Let it be healing.
This isn’t about fixing everything overnight. It’s about creating space—space for rest, for restoration, and for God to remind you who you really are.
Because your mental health matters.
Your peace matters.
And no, you’re not too emotional. You’re just overdue for a reset.
