That word either brings a smile to your face or a tear to your eye. Remember when you were little and absolutely hated the word "nap?" How much would you pay now to get the chance to reinstate those mid-day snooze sessions? We'd definitely be willing to sacrifice the daily lattes.
At what point do we lose the innocence and simplicity of childhood? Why does adulthood toss us into a never-ending drive to be more and do more, but forget about the still-applicable need to also do less and be less concerned with others' perception of us?
Here are some questions you need to consider:
- What do you rely on more to get through your day: endless doses of caffeine or God's grace?
- When was the last time you went on a walk?
- Do you often have to pull yourself away from your "devices" right before your head hits the pillow?
- When was the last time you clearly heard God speaking to you?
"Rest," as we will learn more about this month, is not just about getting some sleep. Rest is about replenishing your soul, your relationships, and your reason for existing on this earth. Rest is about putting down the distractions and temporary reprieves of technology, to-do lists, and tireless pursuits of fame and fortune. God created us with the ability to appreciate and take advantage of the sheer beauty in which He covered this world. Why are we letting such a gratifying opportunity be smothered by what the world defines "a perfect life?"

Abundant life. That's what God wants for His children. Not immense fortune, or the greatest connections, or the ability to do it all, no matter the cost. That's the thief's ways creeping into our lives. No, it's time for us to stop pushing and start resting.
