am I good enough

Am I Good Enough?

am I good enough

Is that title a loaded one or what? Wondering if you’re good enough is a thought everyone has, no matter your gender, race, or social status. We all wonder if our skills match up with our ambition. Sure, we would all love to be stellar leaders of wildly successful teams and leave behind career paths that others will revere for years to come. But then we pull ourselves out of the clouds and come back down to earth under the weight of second-guessing and feeling inadequate.

Who, in your mind, is a great leader? Which person in your life, or in the past, serves as your poster child for what a high-functioning and effective leader looks and acts like? This person may change over the course of your life, but all of us are touched by a truly impactful person in a leadership role at some point in our lives. These individuals are planted in our path to serve as shepherds to guide us in becoming the person we were destined to be.

So are you that person to someone? Do you want to be?

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2:15

Thanks to our culture’s fascination with success and its skewed definition of what an accomplished person looks like, we have built up leadership roles to be something scary and only reserved for the most amazingly perfect human specimens. That couldn’t be further from the truth! A leader is someone who has recognized a destination he or she needs to be headed toward and has chosen to build up those around them into a strong unit that can forge forward together. No fanfare, no instantly high profile, and no accolades instantly come when someone takes on a leadership role. Most leaders make their impact in silence, something many of them likely prefer.

How do you respond when you feel a tugging toward a leadership role? Do you quickly look the other way? Do you make a mental list of all the reasons you can’t go for that promotion? Do you get upset with God for repeatedly placing a leadership opportunity before you when you know you’re not qualified?

Join us this month as we discuss leadership and all the many ways that can appear in our lives. Our hope is that you spend these next few weeks stripping away the “scary” from leadership and begin to see it for the amazing gift that it is.
